Joint Operation Joint operation going on in Bandarban
Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 5 April 2024: A meeting was scheduled to take place between the Peace Establishment Committee and the Kuki Chin National Front (KNF) on April 22. But due to the recent activities of the KNF, that meeting collapsed.
Convener of the Peace Establishment Committee and Chairman of Bandarban Hill District Parishad Kyaw Shwe Hla announced the cancellation of the dialogue. The founder of the Peace Committee Kyaw Shwe Hla announced this in a press conference at the Zilla Parishad meeting room on Thursday morning.
He said, "Attack on Tarbir Namajis, attack on Sonali Bank to loot money, kidnap bank manager, loot weapons of police and Ansar forces. I strongly condemn this. Due to these reasons, it is not possible for the Peace Establishment Committee to continue the dialogue."
Jarlom Bom, president of the Bom Social Council, said, "We are peace-loving. We are making every effort to rescue the bank manager and are contacting the KNF."
He said, "The entire Bom community is not with KNF. Many are with them, and many are not. So the entire Bom community is not responsible for these reasons."
Some members of the peace establishment committee said that an 18-member peace establishment committee was formed in June 2023 with leaders of various communities under the leadership of Bandarban Hill District Parishad Chairman Kyaw Shwe Hla. Four MoUs were signed in the first face-to-face meeting after several rounds of video conference meetings. Six point demands were presented in the second meeting. In this way, everyone was slowly moving towards the path of peace. But KNF suddenly changed position and chose extremism.
