Dhaka, January 12: Mizanur Rahman Khan, the joint editor of Prothom Alo, is no more (Innalillahi wa inna ilahi rajiun). Doctors declared him dead at 6:20 pm on Monday (January 11). He was 53 years old.

Dr. Ashish Kumar Chakraborty, Managing Director of Universal Medical College Hospital confirmed the matter.

Khan contracted the coronavirus last December. He had been undergoing treatment at Universal Medical College Hospital ever since. Mizanur Rahman Khan was taken to life support on Saturday (January 9) evening.

Dr. Ashish Kumar Chakraborty said, "We put him on a ventilator on Saturday. He was under treatment for about a month. He had post-covid complications. It reduces the strength of his respiratory muscles. If the respiratory drive is not right, the amount of carbon dioxide in the body increases. There is no way out without a ventilator. He had been on a ventilator since Saturday."
