Dhaka, May 24: Prothom Alo senior health reporter Rozina Islam, who was released on bail, has been admitted to Square Hospital in the capital for treatment. She was taken to hospital around 6:25 pm on Sunday (May 23) after being released from Kashimpur Central Jail at 4:12 pm. Her family decided to admit her to a hospital for treatment.

Upon arrival at the hospital, she was put in a wheelchair and taken to the emergency ward. Rozina's husband Monirul Islam Mithu said she was brought to the hospital due to seven physical problems. Besides her husband, Rozina Islam's daughter Alvina (9) entered the emergency ward with her.

Earlier, Rozina Islam, a senior correspondent of Prothom Alo, was granted bail in a case filed on charges of 'espionage' and 'possession of state secret documents'.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Baki Billah held a virtual hearing on Rozina's bail in the case, which sparked discussions at home and abroad. He fixed Sunday for the order and ordered bail at noon.

Nizam Uddin, general registration officer (GRO) of the concerned police station, said bail has been ordered on a bond of Tk 5,000. As a condition of bail, the judge ordered Rozina's passport to be submitted to the court.

Journalist Rozina Islam visited the Ministry of Health on Monday (May 17) last week to perform her professional duties. She was detained and harassed for more than five hours. At one point she fell ill.

Later, she was taken to Shahbagh police station from the secretariat around 9 pm. A case was filed against her that night.

The next morning, she was taken to court for remand. The court rejected the remand application and sent her to jail. Although bail was sought at the same time, the court did not hear the matter. Later on Thursday, a hearing was held on the bail application.
