Dhaka, May 21: Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has termed Prothom Alo journalist Rozina Islam's arrest as unfortunate.

"What happened to journalist Rozina Islam was unfortunate. The Bangladesh government has nothing to hide. We now have to face the international community for the behavior of a few people," Momen said in a briefing after a courtesy call on the South Korean ambassador at the state guest house Padma on Thursday (May 20).

Asked whether the arrest of journalist Rozina Islam had tarnished the image of the government, the foreign minister said: "The incident is undesirable. It should have been managed by the Ministry of Health. It is a disgrace by a few people and I know we have to face it. Many will ask. We don't want such an incident. Since it's a pending matter, we don't want to go into details. It's not my job. But it's unintentional and unfortunate. I hope it doesn't happen again."

Praising the media at the time, he said, "The media is doing a great job in the country. Because of them we have heard of pillow-gate. Because of you we have heard of betel trees worth lakhs of takas. Because of you we have got information about Shahed Karim. The government has taken action in every case. The media is helping the government."

He also praised colleagues Obaidul Quader, general secretary of the Awami League, and Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, joint secretary of the Awami League and said their statements were just as they promised justice for Rozina Islam.
