Dhaka: Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the prime minister's adviser on information and communication technology (ICT), has said that everyone has the right to freedom of speech, but that freedom ends when someone spreads lies and harms others.

He said in a post on social media Facebook on Saturday that no one has the right to harm others. President Donald Trump and a number of individuals and organizations have been permanently banned in the United States for spreading violence by spreading lies on Twitter and other social media.

Sheikh Hasina's son Joy said that this is the limit of freedom of speech in the United States. "I would say to those who complain about our Digital Security Act, the United States government has instructed the private sector to do this," he said. In Bangladesh, we believe that this responsibility should not be given to non-governmental organizations, but should be decided by the courts.

The PM's adviser said he wanted the US embassy in Dhaka as well as other Western embassies to take note of the post. He further said, "We do not want to see hypocritical statements from you about freedom of speech in Bangladesh in future."
