Dhaka, Nov 6, 2021: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's IT adviser and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy have alleged that the country is trying to spread misconceptions in the wake of the recent diesel price hike.

He made the allegation in a status posted on his verified Facebook page on Saturday (November 8).

"Diesel price hike and some information: Stay away from rumors - know the truth," he wrote in a Facebook post. But in fact in 2013 the price of diesel in the country was 6 rupees per liter, later in 2016 it was reduced from 3 rupees to 75 rupees per liter. Since then, the price of diesel and kerosene has not increased in the last five and a half years.

He further wrote, ‘The price of fuel oil has continued to rise in the international market since the beginning of the current financial year. As a result, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation-BPC is facing huge losses in the case of diesel. The subsidy was Tk 2.98 per liter in June this year, Tk 3.80 in July, Tk 1.58 in August, Tk 5.62 in September and Tk 13.01 in October. In the last five and a half months, BPC has lost about Tk 1,148.60 crore for diesel. At the same time, the value of the dollar has risen from Tk 69 in 2016 to Tk 65.75 this month. As a result, they have to pay extra in dollars. '

Highlighting the oil prices of neighboring countries, Sajib Wazed wrote, "Even after the reduction in the price of fuel oil in India, the price of diesel in West Bengal is Rs 90 or Rs 104 per liter, while in Delhi it is Rs 96.42 or Rs 114 per liter." In Nepal too, the price is 112.39 Nepali rupees or 81 rupees. We are worth less than these neighboring countries. For this reason, smugglers are smuggling diesel from here to neighboring countries. The government is constantly coming up with thousands of crores of rupees in subsidies for fuel oil. As a result, prices are falling in this country and smuggling is taking place abroad.
