July 19 to be observed as Booster Dose Day

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, July 15: The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has decided to observe Booster Dose Day nationwide on July 19 to prevent corona infection. Anyone over the age of 18 can take a booster dose on this day if it's been four months since the second dose.

The Pfizer vaccine is said to be used as a booster dose on that day. The DGHS said on Thursday, on the occasion of the day, teams have been announced to provide booster vaccination in 24 centres of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) area and 14 centres of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) area.

In Dhaka North City Corporation area, four teams will work in each of the 11 centres and 8 teams will work in each of the 16 centres including 250-bed TB Hospital, National Heart Institute, Dhaka Dental College. Besides, in Dhaka South City Corporation area, four teams will work in each of the four centres and 8 teams will work in each of the 10 centres including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Central Police Hospital and Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the DGHS said.

Each team will consist of two vaccinators and three volunteers. Each team will vaccinate 500 people. The health department also said that the booster dose day facility will provide the vaccine to women individually in a screened area at the centre and give priority to the elderly and disabled people.

According to the notification, "Earlier, you have successfully completed the third dose or booster dose week to strengthen the Covid-19 vaccination programme. In continuation of this, the Covid Vaccine Booster Dose Day will be celebrated nationwide on July 19."

In coordination with the Covid-19 Vaccination Coordinating Committee and all the concerned departments, it has been specially mentioned in the notification to motivate the people through a massive campaign to observe Booster Dosage Day and take measures to provide booster doses to all.

Mentioning that the regular activities of the first and second dose of the Covid-19 vaccination will continue as usual, the notification said that the booster dose programme shall be condcuted in one day.
