Dhaka, May 8: The government's decision on the application to take BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia abroad will be announced on Sunday (May 9). On Saturday afternoon, Law Minister Anisul Huq said, "We will send the decision of the Law Ministry to the Home Ministry by Saturday. The government's decision will be announced by the Home Ministry on Sunday."

On Wednesday (May 5), her younger brother Shamim Iskander pleaded on behalf of the family to take Khaleda Zia abroad for treatment. Later at 11:30 pm, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told the media that Khaleda Zia's family had told him that she needed medical treatment abroad.

"Hon'ble Prime Minister is very humane. We are looking at the petition positively. The petition has been sent to the law minister to see what is in the law and how it can be done," the minister said.

Earlier on Monday (May 3) morning, Khaleda Zia had breathing problems and doctors transferred her to the CCU. She is being treated under a 10-member medical board under the supervision of Shahabuddin Talukder, a cardiologist at Evercare Hospital.

Meanwhile, Awami League joint general secretary Mahabub-ul-Alam Hanif has said that there is no need to take BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia abroad at the moment.

He said: "During the pandemic, communication in many countries has been limited. One has to consider which doctor in which country she will be taken to and whether they will give her the required medical treatment. Besides, the most important thing is that the opinion of her doctors is that Khaleda Zia's treatment is possible in the country. So there is no need to take her abroad."

Hanif was speaking at the inauguration of Dr Rumi Memorial Room at Kushtia Medical College Hospital on Saturday (May 8) morning.

He said, "BNP leaders and activists are more involved in politics in the name of medical treatment than the health and treatment of Begum Khaleda Zia. We have seen at various times that BNP leaders and activists have raised irrelevant and unnecessary demands to create pressure on the government in various ways instead of treating Khaleda Zia well. Which is not related to Khaleda Zia's treatment."
