Dhaka, May 9, 2021: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will not be able to go abroad for treatment.

The minister made the remarks while talking to reporters at his office in the Secretariat on Sunday (May 9th).

Earlier in the morning, the law ministry sent the file back to the home ministry with comments on Khaleda Zia's request to be sent abroad for treatment. According to the law ministry, the home ministry did not approve the application, the minister said.

The Home Minister said, "BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's younger brother came to the Home Ministry with an application. She (Khaleda Zia) has been convicted by the court and is in prison. The Hon'ble Prime Minister, Mother of Humanity, granted him the opportunity to seek medical treatment by suspending his sentence in accordance with Section 401 (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code in response to their plea for humanity. He was receiving medical treatment and was staying at home. '

The minister said, "She (Khaleda Zia) is undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital due to sudden colic. Meanwhile, his younger brother asked us to allow him to go abroad. We sent it there for the opinion of the Ministry of Law. The law ministry has made it clear that this is the second time that the benefit has been given by suspending the sentence under section 401. This is the second time in 401 that there is no excuse to pardon him and send him abroad. They have informed it. '

Asaduzzaman Khan said, ‘The sentence was suspended subject to the condition that he could not go abroad or seek treatment from home. In the opinion of the Ministry of Law, we are not able to grant their application. That is what we will tell them now. '

Regarding what you do not see as a humanitarian issue, the minister said, "We have sent it to look into the humanitarian issue. According to the law, he can be given in any way or not. According to the law ministry, there is no scope for giving according to the existing law. By showing humanity, the Prime Minister left her at home and gave her the opportunity for treatment. '
