Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Nov 7: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's bail has been extended in two defamation cases filed in Dhaka and Narail. She will remain on bail until the case is settled.

In view of separate applications, the bench of Justice Mostafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md. Aminul Islam of the High Court gave this order on Monday (November 7). BNP legal affairs secretary and Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Kaiser Kamal said this.

Earlier on September 28 last year, a bench of Justice Muhammad Abdul Hafeez and Justice Muhammad Ali extended her bail by one year. On 21 December 2015, BNP Chairperson was accused of making adverse comments about the number of brave freedom fighters. A local leader of Awami League in Narail filed a defamation case against Khaleda Zia on this allegation on December 24 of the same year. Then on January 5, 2016, AB Siddiqui, president of the Jannetri Parishad, filed another defamation case in Dhaka. The High Court granted bail to Khaleda Zia in these two cases. As the period of that bail has expired, bail is applied again.

Meanwhile, the accused Khaleda Zia was sentenced in the corruption case. She was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust corruption cases. She is currently staying at home after being released from prison by the government's executive order.
