Dhaka, November 18: A court has sentenced Madrasa Super Abdul Quader to life imprisonment for raping a female student at a residential women's madrasa in Kushtia, within three working days of the formation of the charge. Kushtia Women and Child Abuse Suppression Tribunal Judge Munshi Md. Moshiar Rahman gave the landmark verdict in a crowded court on Tuesday (November 17) at noon.

The convict Abdul Quader was present in the court at that time. The court ruled in the rape case within three working days of filing the chargesheet.

The convict is the superintendent of Sirajul Ulum Maryam Nesa Women's Madrasa in Swarupadaha (Chokpara) village of Mirpur upazila of Kushtia.

In addition to the death sentence, the court also sentenced Abdul Quader to six months imprisonment for non-payment of a fine of Tk 1,00,000.

At the same time, the court directed the district magistrate to sell the movable and immovable property of the accused and pay the fine to the rape victim.

According to court sources, Madrasa Superintendent Abdul Quader raped a Nahabila (eighth) class resident of the madrasa at 5 am on October 4 this year. He raped the girl for the second time at around 8 pm on the same day. When the matter came to light, the next day, on October 5, the father of the rape victim filed a case with the Mirpur Police Station.

Police filed a chargesheet in the court on October 13, nine days after the case was filed. Accused Abdul Quader made a confessional statement under Section 164 in the Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court.

The court framed charges against Abdul Quader on November 12.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty in court at that time. The court passed the verdict in the presence of the accused on Tuesday as the allegations against the accused were proved beyond doubt within three working days of the formation of the charges based on the evidence given by 13 witnesses.
