Own representative, Dhaka, 22 December: Coronavirus infection is likely to increase if people do not wear masks in various tourist spots, including Cox's Bazar. Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque told this to reporters at the start of a meeting at the secretariat on Tuesday (December 21).

He said, "People are crowding in different places, including Cox's Bazar, without wearing masks. People are not wearing masks even in political rallies."

Zahid Maleque said that the Surokkha App is being updated to give booster dose of coronavirus vaccine to everyone. Veterans over 60 and frontliners will be able to get vaccinated with the vaccination card. At the end of this month, it will start through the apps like the previous ones.

The minister said that the ICT ministry is working on it.

Stating that Omicron has not spread in the country yet, the Health Minister said, "Necessary activities are being carried out to stop Omicron. The health ministry has written to the deputy commissioner and civil surgeons to ensure that people across the country abide by the health rules as before."

The Health minister said that so far the first dose of coronavirus vaccine has been given to 70 million people and the second dose to 45 million people. In other words, the first dose of coronavirus vaccine has been given to 60 percent of the people, while 35 percent of people have taken the second dose.

He said, "Vaccines have a big role to play in controlling the coronavirus. Bangladesh has been an example of success in controlling Covid-19. Now that the infection has subsided it needs to be contained. All hospitals now have oxygen support."

He added, "Bangladesh will have an agreement with the Maldivian government. As a result, they will take doctors and nurses from Bangladesh."
