Dhaka, December 10: With the installation of the 41st span, the total length of 6.15 kms of Padma Bridge has become fully visible.

The last 41st span was placed on the 12th and 13th pillars of the bridge at 12:02 pm on Thursday. Through this the two banks of the Padma, Mawa and Jajira, were connected and after that the laying of road and railway slabs was completed so that vehicles and trains could move.

Earlier on Wednesday, the last span of the Padma Bridge picked up the floating crane carrier Tian E from the 2-F yard and left for the 12th and 13th poles.

Shafiqul Islam, project director of the Padma Bridge, said the work of installing the 2-F span on the poles 12 and 13 on the Mawa side started at 9 am and was completed at around 12 noon.

Meanwhile, a special festive mood is prevailing among the visitors present around the Padma Bridge. Many visited the spot to to be a part of history.

The people on the banks of the Padma are overwhelmed with joy surrounding this bridge. Especially the people of 21 districts in the south are doing well. Because if this bridge is launched, a groundbreaking chapter will be written in the communication system of the whole country including the people of this region. The wheel of the national economy will accelerate.

After completing all the preparations for the installation of the 41st span, the floating ship 'Tian-e' took the 150-meter-long span weighing 3200 tons from the construction yard of Mawa Kumarbhog to the poles at 5:05 pm on Wednesday. At 5:45 the ship reached the poles 12 and 13 and anchored.

Dewan Mohammad Abdur Quader, Executive Engineer (Main Bridge) of Padma Bridge, said that out of 41 spans, 20 spans have been installed at Jazira end and 19 spans have been installed at Mawa end. A span sits between the ends of Mawa and Jajira. And the last span is placed today at the edge of Mawa.

Construction of the Padma Bridge began in December 2014. The Padma Bridge began to be visible on September 30, 2016 with the installation of the first span on poles 37 and 38. After that 40 spans were placed one by one. It is visible 6 kilometers of the bridge. The 6.15 km long Padma bridge is being constructed by placing 41 spans of 150 m length on 42 pillars.
