Dhaka, November 11: Making things uncomfortable for controversial lawmaker and businessman Haji Mohammad Salim, the High Court on Wednesday asked the Dhaka Special Judge Court-7 to submit the records of a previous case in which he was jailed for over 12 years.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had filed an application to expedite the hearing of Haji Salim's appeal against the judgment of the Judicial Court. In that application, a virtual high court bench of Justice Md. Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice AKM Zahirul Haque passed the order on Wednesday.

Khurshid Alam Khan was the lawyer for the ACC.

Lawyer Saeed Ahmed Raja represented Haji Selim.

Haji Selim's lawyer said, "On January 2, 2011, the High Court acquitted Haji Selim on his appeal. Later on August 3 of that year, the record of this case went to the lower court. After that this record never came again. Today, the High Court is asking the lower court to send the record or report on it. Now the record will actually set the date of the hearing after the paperbook is made. "

Last Sunday, the ACC appointed Khurshid Alam Khan to handle the case. Then on Monday, the ACC applied to list Haji Mohammad Selim's appeal against the verdict of the court in the case of acquisition of illegal assets.

When the ACC presented it again on Tuesday, the High Court summoned the lower court documents.

Ward Councilor Irfan Salim, son of Haji Salim, was arrested in connection with the beating of a naval officer and the ACC took the initiative to settle the case after discussing the RAB raid on the house of the ruling party MP in Old Dhaka.

During the state of emergency, the ACC filed a case against Haji Selim on October 24, 2007 at Lalbagh police station alleging illegal acquisition of assets. On April 27, 2008, the court sentenced him to 13 years in prison.
