Lighter-matches cannot be carried in Eid congregation

Dhaka, April 20: Lighters, matches or any other inflammable material cannot be carried in the Eid-ul-Fitr congregation at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque amid the ongoing heat wave situation.

Islamic Foundation has issued a notification on Wednesday (April 19) asking the worshipers not to bring these things to the Eid congregation. Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims in the country, will be celebrated next Saturday or Sunday depending on the sighting of the moon.

Recently the maximum temperature in Dhaka crossed 40 degrees Celsius. Like different parts of the country, intense heat waves were flowing over Dhaka. In the meantime, fire has occurred in several big markets in Dhaka. Although the temperature in Dhaka has dropped below 40 degrees Celsius, the city life is still miserable in the scorching heat.

According to the notification, five Eid congregations will be held in Baitul Mukarram, considering the current situation, the worshipers participating in the prayers are specially requested not to bring any kind of lighters, candles or any kind of flammable material to the mosque and around the mosque.

When asked to know, Islamic Foundation's religious invitation and culture department director Md. Anichur Rahman Sarkar said, "Very hot weather is prevailing." I am getting reports of fire in different places. As a precautionary measure, we have asked not to bring lighters, candles or other flammable materials to the Eid congregation at Baitul Mukarram.

This time, the main Eid congregation will be held at 8:30 am at the National Eidgah in the Supreme Court premises. The Islamic Foundation said in a notification that if the weather is unfavorable, the main Eid congregation will be changed from the National Eidgah to the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram and merged with the 9 am congregation and the President will offer prayers in that congregation.

According to the press release of the Islamic Foundation, Eid congregation will be held at Baitul Mukarram at 7:00 am, 8:00 am, 9:00 am, 10:00 am and 10:45 am. The first congregation will be at 7 am.
