Lighting strikes kill 11 across Bangladesh

Dhaka, May 25: Eleven people were killed in lightning strikes in three districts of the country on Monday (May 24th). Of these, five died in Chapainawabganj, four in Sirajganj and two in Chittagong.

According to reports five people were killed in lightning strikes in different places of three upazilas of Chapainawabganj district on Monday afternoon.

They are: Rabiul Islam (27), son of Enamul Islam of Namoharma village in Debinagar union of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila; Alamin (13), son of Ashraful Haque of Sabaniapara village in Kalinagar; Khushi, daughter of Biplob of Hujrapur mahalla of Rahanpur municipal area (12); Sadia, 10, daughter of Nazmul of Lalkopara village in Gomstapur union; And Azizul Haque, 55, son of Akalu Hajir of Krishnapur Hariabari village in Bholahat upazila.

Meanwhile, four people were killed in lightning strikes in Chithulia and Dugli of Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj district and Krishnapur area of ​​Ullapara upazila.

They are: Nazmul (15), son of Azam Bepari of Dugli village in Gala union of Shahjadpur upazila; Hashem Ali, 25, son of Azgar Ali of Chithulia village in Kayempur union; Chakera Begum (56), wife of Solaiman Mollah; And Mohna Khatun (17), daughter of Md. Mosharraf Hossain of West Krishnapur village of Ullapara upazila.

Shahjadpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shah Mohammad Shamsuzzoha confirmed the death of four people in the lightning strike and said their families would be provided financial assistance.

On the other hand, two construction workers named Elias (50) and Kasem (40) were killed in a lightning strike at a beel in Paschim Baria village of Battali union in Anwara upazila of Chittagong district.

Anwara Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Didarul Islam said the two workers went to a tea shop in the village after work on Sunday evening. On the way home from there, they were struck by lightning.
