Locals-Students clash: Classes suspended on Sunday

The class-examination will start again from Tuesday (March 14). In an emergency notification on Saturday (March 11), class-examinations were canceled citing unavoidable reasons.

Earlier, when students clashed with locals over bus fare, the Binodpur market adjacent to the university turned into a battlefield. Angry students set ablaze at least 25-30 shops. At least 200 students were injured in this incident. At one stage of the conflict, the locals blocked the highway. Brick pelting continued between locals and students from both sides of the highway.

According to local sources, a student named Mohammad was going to Rajshahi University in a bus from Bogra. The bus supervisor and helper had an argument with him over the fare on the journey. When he came to the counter from the bus at Binodpur gate of the university and talked about the matter, he got involved in discussions with the locals. Later it turned into a conflict.

Meanwhile, the police fired tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the angry students. However, after 10 pm, the students again went out of the campus. They protested.
