Lockdown: 354 arrested by DMP, Tk 13 lakh fined on Tuesday

Dhaka, August 4: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 354 people for violating government directives on the 12th day of the ongoing two-week hard lockdown, imposed by the government to put a check on coronavirus infections. According to the DMP, 120 individuals and organizations were fined Tk 1,77,800 by the mobile courts.

Besides, the traffic department imposed a fine of Tk 11.23 lakh on 532 vehicles.

Iftekhairul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of the Media and Public Relations Department of the DMP, said this on Tuesday (August 3) afternoon.

He said the arrests were made in Ramna, Lalbagh, Motijheel, Wari, Tejgaon, Mirpur, Gulshan and Uttara areas of the eight divisions of the DMP since morning on the 12th day of the lockdown. So far, a total of 5,006 people have been arrested in the capital for violating the restrictions.

On Monday, the 11th day of the lockdown, 345 people were arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) for disobeying government instructions. A total of 135 individuals and organizations were fined Tk 1,89,800 by the mobile court. Besides, the traffic department imposed a fine of Tk 8,24,500 on 366 vehicles.
