Lockdown: 467 people arrested, fines amounting Tk 27 lakh collected

Dhaka, July 7: On the sixth day of the hard lockdown, 467 people were arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) for disobeying government instructions. A total of 305 people have been fined Tk 2,27,480 by the mobile court. Besides, a fine of Tk 25,29,000 has been imposed on 1,087 vehicles by the traffic department. A total of 3,085 people have been arrested in the capital in the six days. On Tuesday (July 6), on the sixth day of the lockdown, eight divisions of the DMP took legal action against these individuals.

Iftekhairul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of DMP's Media and Public Relations Department confirmed it.

He said 467 people were arrested in Ramna, Lalbagh, Motijheel, Wari, Tejgaon, Mirpur, Gulshan and Uttara areas of the eight divisions of the DMP from morning till evening on the sixth day of the lockdown. A mobile court and traffic department headed by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) imposed a fine of Tk 25.29 lakh on 1,087 vehicles for going out on the road during the ongoing lockdown.

He further said that the law enforcement agencies were active in the capital for the sixth day to implement the ongoing restrictions announced by the government. In the capital, 305 people were fined Tk 2,27,480 for leaving their homes without any reason and ignoring government restrictions.

On Monday, the fifth day of the lockdown, 509 people were arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) for disobeying government instructions. A total of 287 people were fined Tk 1,57,600 by the mobile court. Besides, the traffic department imposed a fine of Tk 12,23,300 on 526 vehicles.

And on the fourth day of the fourth day of lockdown, 618 people were arrested in the capital for going out without important reasons. On the same day, 161 people were fined by the mobile court. The traffic department had imposed a fine of Tk 12.81 lakh on 496 vehicles.
