Lockdown declaration proposal sent to PM Hasina

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 4 April 2021: A proposal to declare a lockdown has been sent to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from the Cabinet Division.

If the Prime Minister approves, the lockdown may be announced on Sunday morning. Additional Secretary to the Cabinet Division (District and Field Administration Division) Sheikh Rafiqul Islam made the disclosure on Saturday (April 3rd).

The government is set to announce a one-week lockdown from Monday (April 5th) as coronavirus infections continue to rise at an alarming rate. The Additional Secretary to the Cabinet Division said, ‘The proposal to declare a lockdown has been sent to the Hon’ble Prime Minister. If she approves, a notification will be issued in this regard. '

He further said, "Earlier, a virtual meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Cabinet Secretary (Khandaker Anwarul Islam). The chief secretary, the concerned senior secretary, top law enforcement officials, health department officials and many others were present at the meeting.

Earlier in the morning, Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader announced the lockdown at a press briefing at his official residence.

Later, State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain said that all types of government and non-government organizations except emergency services would remain closed during the lockdown. However, the industry will remain open in accordance with the hygiene rules.
