Dhaka, July 26: On the third day, 587 people were arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) for disobeying government instructions during the ongoing two-week hard lockdown to prevent the coronavirus infection. Two hundred thirty-three individuals and organizations were fined Tk 1,00,950 by mobile courts. Besides, the traffic department also imposed a fine of Tk 12,72,000 on 521 vehicles. A total of 1,373 people have been arrested in the capital in three days.

On Sunday (July 25), eight divisions of the DMP took legal action against these individuals on the third day of the 14-day hard lockdown, Iftekhairul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Media and Public Relations, DMP, said.

He said 587 people were arrested in Ramna, Lalbagh, Motijheel, Wari, Tejgaon, Mirpur, Gulshan and Uttara areas of the eight divisions of the DMP from morning to evening on the third day of the lockdown. A mobile court and traffic department headed by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) imposed a fine of Tk 12.72 lakh on 521 vehicles in a case of going out on the road during the lockdown.

He added that law enforcement agencies are active across the capital for the third day in a row to ensure a two-week strict lockdown, imposed by the government to prevent the Covid-19 disease. A total of 233 individuals and organizations were fined Tk 1,00,950 for leaving the house in the capital unjustifiably and on various pretexts or for keeping the shops open even in lockdown.

It is to be mentioned that 383 people were arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police for disobeying the government instructions on the second day of the lockdown.

One hundred and thirty-seven individuals and organizations were fined Tk 95,230 by the mobile court. Besides, a fine of Tk 10.83 lakh was imposed on 441 vehicles by the traffic department.
