Lockdown relaxed ahead of Eid, govt. issues notification

Dhaka, July 13: The government has issued a notification relaxing the hard lockdown ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. According to the notification, which was issued by the Cabinet Division on Tuesday, public transport will operate, while shops and shopping malls will open and activities will take place in compliance with strict hygiene rules. It will come into effect from the midnight of July 14 and will remain in action till 6 am on July 23.

At the same time, strict restrictions have been imposed again from 6 am on July 23 to 12 midnight on August 5. The second major religious festival of Muslims in the country, Eid-ul-Azha, will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 21.

A seven-day strict ban began at 6 am on July 1 as coronavirus infections increased at an alarming rate. The ban lasted until 11:59 pm on July 7. Later, the ban was extended for another 7 days, i.e. till midnight on July 14.

According to the circular, all restrictions imposed on the celebration of Eid-ul-Azha, public transport, pre-Eid trade and commerce, socio-economic conditions and economic activities of the country have been relaxed from midnight on July 14 till 6 am on July 23. However, at this time, the citizens have been asked to follow Covid-19 safety norms, including wearing a mask.

Considering the situation of coronavirus-borne disease (Covid-19) infection, 23 conditions have been added and strict restrictions have been imposed again from 6 am on July 23 to midnight on August 5.
