Low and middle class families struggling to meet dengue treatment's cost

Dhaka, July 22: The number of dengue patients is increasing every day. Many hospitals in the capital have no beds due to patient pressure. Again, treatment of dengue disease in private hospitals is expensive. As a result, the lower and middle class families are struggling to get treatment.

Relatives of the patient say that dengue has taken a terrible shape in the capital. Hundreds of people are getting dengue every day. Many lower and middle class families are financially strapped for medical expenses. Because together with increasing incidence of dengue dengue treatment has become expensive. Every day money is going for platelet test, dengue detection test, CVC and other tests. In many cases, as several members of the same family are affected by dengue, the family is struggling to meet the expenses of all.

It can be seen in Mugda Medical College Hospital on Friday, there are dengue patients in every ward. Doctors doing rounds in the children's ward. Most patients are running saline. However, the patient's relatives complained that the babies had to buy baby saline from outside as there was a shortage of supply.

Seventeen-month-old Amin admitted to the infant ward of Mugda Hospital. His mother said, we live in Jatrabari area. A few days ago I had dengue. A few days after going home, the child got dengue. So I brought him back to the hospital. His father is a car helper. It is difficult to run the family with his little income. In the meantime, he spent a lot of money on me. Now he has to spend a lot of money. But we cannot afford to spend.

She complained that there is a shortage of baby saline in the hospital. There is a supply shortage of saline in the shops around the hospital. I brought it from a distant pharmacy. Hospital ward boys either work if paid, or they don't.

Bappi Mia, father of two-year-old Amatur with dengue, said their home is in Mugda area. The number of dengue cases is increasing in this area. Four members of their family are infected with dengue. Four people suffering from dengue at the same time are struggling to meet the medical expenses. Because if you have dengue fever, you have to stay in the hospital for a long time. Platelet test, dengue detection test, CVC and other tests have to be done almost every day.

Talking to the hospital nurses, it is known that dengue patients are increasing day by day. It is difficult to treat them. However, they said they were not committing malpractice in patient care.

When asked about the shortage of saline, the director of Mugda Medical College Hospital, Dr. Niatuzzaman, said that the hospital has enough saline to treat dengue patients.
