Bus Accident Madaripur bus mishap: Death toll rises to 20
Dhaka, March 20: The death toll in a bus accident on the expressway in the Kutubpur area of Shibchar in Madaripur has risen to 20. The accident took place on Sunday morning.
Eleven of the deceased have been identified. They are: Ranjan Mondal (50) of Gopalganj's Trindi, Masud Mia (35) of Muksudpur, Sheikh Abdul Al Mamun (42) of Khulna's Sonadanga, Md. Hedayet Mia (47) of Gopalganj Sadar, Sweety Akter (22) of Gopalganj Sadar, Farhad Hossain (67) of Narail's Lohagara, Mostak Sheikh (41) of Gopalganj Sadar, Sheikh Kabir Hossain (57) of Gopalganj's Tungipara, Afsana Mimi (25) of Gopalganj Sadar, Sajeeb (27) of Gopalganj, Ismail Hussain (28) of Alfadanga area of Faridpur. The identities of the rest are yet to be established.
Locals said that a bus of Imad Paribahan leaving Khulna on Sunday morning lost control and fell down in Kutubpur area of Shibchar before the Padma Setu. The bus overturned in this incident. Fourteen passengers were killed on the spot.
Shibchar Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Naeem Md. Mofazzel Haque said that 20 people have been killed in the accident so far. 14 dead bodies were recovered from the spot. Later, four people died while undergoing treatment at Shibchar Upazila Health Complex. Besides, two others died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital.
