Magnitude 5.2 earthquake felt in different parts of the country

Dhaka, July 7: Moderate tremors were felt in four divisions of the country. The epicenter was reported at 242 km from Dhaka's Agargaon Meteorological Office. Origin is in Lakhipur near Assam, India. Mohammad Zahirul Islam, an official with the Meteorological Department's seismic unit, confirmed it around 10 am on Wednesday (July 7).

He said a magnitude 5.2 earthquake was felt in Rangpur, Sylhet, Mymensingh and Dhaka divisions of the country at 9:15:24 am this morning.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake had a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale. The place of origin is Lakhipur near Assam.

According to the European Measurement Seismological Center (EMCS), the epicenter of the 5.3 magnitude earthquake was in Meghalaya. The distance of origin from Sherpur in Bangladesh is 107 kilometers.

The quake affected Assam and Meghalaya around 8:45 am local time on Wednesday, according to Indian news outlets. The magnitude of the tremor on the Richter scale was 5.2.

The origin was Goalpara in Assam. The quake affected most of the districts in North Bengal. The quake affected Coochbihar, Jalpaiguri and Dinajpur districts, residents said.
