Man dies after falling off building while trying to escape cops in Dhaka

Dhaka, October 22: A man died after jumping from an under-construction building in Dhaka while trying to avoid getting caught by policemen on Wednesday evening. 

The deceased has been identified as Sabuj Howladar (40).

The incident took place near Agargaon's BNP Bazar.

Howlader was first rushed to a hospital and later to the emergency ward of Dhaka Medical College Hospital after his condition deteriorated, where doctors decleared him brought dead at around 8pm.

Belal Hossain, a colleague of the deceased, said some people were gambling on the fifth floor of a seven-storey under-construction building at Janata Housing in Agargaon.

At that time, cops from Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station reached the spot.

Panicked by this, Sabuj fled quickly and fell down through the empty space of the elevator.

He was later rescued and taken to DMCH, where doctors declared him dead.

He further said that Sabuj Hawladar is the son of late Abdul Majid Hawladar of Khodabakskathi village in Bakerganj upazila of Barisal.

He is currently living in Janata Housing with his pregnant second wife and one son.

His first wife lives in the village with three children.

Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police sub-inspector (SI) Md. Jamil Hossain said, "In the evening I was on duty in front of the under-construction building when the man fell down from the building. On seeing him, he was rescued to the cripple hospital. Later, the neighbors took him to Dhaka Medical College. The doctor declared him dead there."

DMCH police camp in-charge (inspector) Md. Bachchu Mia confirmed the matter and said that the body has been kept in the morgue.

The matter has been informed to the concerned police station.
