Dhaka, June 4: Two young women, aged 19 and 22, from Mymensingh's Gafargaon are believed to have been trafficked to India in a bid to get a higher-salaried job. Their family said the two girls had been missing since the first week of May. Their father lodged a written complaint with the Sreepur police station on May 28.

The father of the two missing girls said his two daughters took a job two years ago at a biscuit company in the Jaina Bazar area of Sreepur upazila in Gazipur due to lack of family resources. They started living in the area due to their jobs. While working, they met Md. Sujan Mia (45) and Md. Yusuf Mia (22). From the acquaintance, Yusuf fell in love with the elder sister of the two missing sisters and they without informing anyone.

Yusuf introduced himself as the son of Samad Miah of Uchakhila Union in Ishwarganj upazila of the district. However, the girl's father could not confirm whether his identity was correct or not. He could not verify the address of the other acquaintance Sujan Mia.

"Last 10 to 12 days before Eid-ul-Fitr, the girls called me and said they'll come home. We lost contact with them two to three days later. They have been missing ever since," he said.

Asked how he found out that his daughters are in India, he said, "Police called us from India in the last week of last month. I have one daughter in their custody. When I asked where the other girl was, they said they don't know," said the guardian.

He called on the government to bring his two daughters back to the country.
