Man, wife arrested for murdering daughter's boyfriend's mother

Dhaka, July 6: Sirajul Islam, 20, son of Abdur Rashid of Mymensingh's Char Ishwardia Purbapara, left home on June 19 with his girlfriend Khuki Akter, 20. Ten days after the incident, Khuki's father Khokon Mia went to Sirajul's house on June 28 and abused his father Abdur Rashid. At one stage, they tied Sirajul's mother Laili Akter's leg with an electric wire, poured petrol and set her on fire. Later, Laili Akhter died at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery while undergoing treatment. Mymensingh district PBI has arrested Khokon Mia alias Kajal and his wife Nasima Akter in the case.

Additional DIG Md Sayedur Rahman said this at a press conference held at the PBI office in Dhanmondi on Wednesday (July 7).

He said Sirajul Islam, son of Abdur Rashid of Char Ishwardia Purbapara under Kotwali police station in Mymensingh, left the house on June 19 with Khuki Akter, daughter of Khokon Mia alias Kajal of the same village. To get Khuki back, father Khokon Mia and mother Nasima Akhter kona kept pressuring Abdur Rashid, father of Sirajul Islam and mother Laili Begum. He also threatened them.

However, after not finding the girl even after 10 days, father Khokon Mia and mother Nasima Akhter went to Sirajul's house around 9 am on June 28. They abused Sirajul's father Abdur Rashid. Later, in the absence of Abdur Rashid, they grabbed his wife Laili, tied her hands and feet with black electric wire, poured petrol on her body and set her on fire.

About 60 percent of Laili Akhtar's body was burnt. He was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. As the condition deteriorated, the doctor sent Victim Laili Akhter to Dhaka from Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Laili Akhter was admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery where she died while undergoing treatment.
