People of different ages and different classes and professions waited for the beginning of the Mangal Sobhayatra in the university premises from morning. Since the first day of the Bengali New Year is the month of Ramadan, this year's Poila Baisakh morning, Panta-Hilsa (soaked rice and Hilsa fish) was not organized. And due to the intense heat, the presence of children and the elderly was a little less.

However, there was no reluctance among the youth to welcome the new year with the hope of leaving behind the old gloom, depression and impurity and moving forward with new enthusiasm. Their presence was noticeable even before the Mars procession started at the Dhaka University campus. Their presence was seen at Suhrawardy Udyan, TSC, Bangla Academy premises, Dhaka University's Smriti Chirantan Chatwar, Doel Chatwar since morning. Besides, like every year, citizens of different countries had come to Dhaka University campus to participate in the procession.

Besides, from different areas of the capital, people from different classes and professions had come to TSC area to participate in the procession. Most of the women who came to participate in this procession were seen wearing sarees and colorful flowers on their heads. Men wore Punjabis of various colors, including white. Many had painted various symbols of Bengali tradition on their bodies.

A procession was taken out from the fine arts faculty of Dhaka University on Poila Baisakh, calling for an end to the darkness of military rule in the 1980s. This later got the name 'Mangal Shobhayatra'. Every year for the last three decades, the Mangal Shobhayatra is organized by the art teachers and students on Pahela Boishakh.
