Many hospitals in Dhaka running short of ICU

Dhaka, July 25, 2021: As the number of patients infected with coronavirus continues to increase, pressure has been created in the hospitals of the capital.

This has also reduced the number of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) beds in these hospitals. According to the Department of Health, seven of the capital's 17 corona hospitals have no ICU beds. Although patients are treated in three hospitals, there are no ICU beds. The remaining six hospitals have only 36 vacancies.

This information has been given in the regular press release on Saturday (July 24) sent by the Department of Health. Of the 18 government hospitals dedicated to corona in the capital, the Infectious Diseases Hospital, the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospitals and the National Institute of Kidney Diseases and Urology treat patients with corona but there are no ICU beds for them.

Of the 17 Covid Government Hospitals in the capital, the seven ICU beds that are not vacant include Kurmitola General Hospital (10 beds), Sheikh Russell Gastroliver Hospital (18 beds), Government Employees Hospital (6 beds), Dhaka Medical College Hospital (20 beds), Mugda Medical College Hospital (24 beds), Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital (10 beds) and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital (20 beds). In other words, patients are admitted in all the beds of ICU of the big seven government hospitals in the capital which treat corona patients.

ICU beds are vacant in six of the 16 Covid Dedicated Hospitals in the capital. Kuwait Bangladesh Maitri Government Hospital has one out of 28 beds, Rajarbagh Police Hospital has five out of 15 beds, National Heart Institute and Hospital has two out of eight beds, TB Hospital has 12 out of 16 beds, National Chest Disease Institute and Hospital has 10 out of 10 beds, and DNCC Hospital Out of 212 beds, 14 beds are vacant. In other words, except for three, there are only 36 vacancies in 393 ICU beds of 13 hospitals.
