Dhaka, October 22: Iqbal Hossain, 30, accused of keeping a copy of the holy Quran in a Hindu marquee, has been brought to Comilla under tight security. He was brought to the Comilla police line around 12:30 pm on Friday (October 22).

Comilla District Additional Assistant Superintendent of Police (Crime) M Tanvir Ahmed said Iqbal had been arrested for keeping the Holy Quran in a puja mandapa on the banks of Nanua Dighi. The arrested Iqbal is the son of Nur Ahmed Alam of Muradpur Laskarpukurpar area of ​​Ward 17 of Comilla metropolis. His identity was confirmed by the law enforcement agencies after seeing CCTV footage of several areas of the city, including the vicinity of the marquee. Later, several teams of law enforcement officers went to arrest him.

Police arrested Iqbal from Sugandha Point in Cox's Bazar beach area around 10:30 pm on Thursday (October 21). On receiving the news, a team of police led by Comilla District Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Sohan Sarkar left Comilla at night.

Detainee Iqbal was handed over to Comilla police around 6:30 am on Friday after preliminary interrogation. He was later brought to Comilla under tight security.

On 13 October, an attack and vandalism took place at the Durga Puja marquee in Nanua Dighirpar in Comilla. In this incident, 791 people were accused in nine cases in different police stations of Comilla. Of these, five cases have been registered in Kotwali Model Police Station, two in Comilla Sadar Dakshin Model Police Station and one each in Daudkandi and Debidwar Police Stations. Mentioning the names of 91 people, 700 people have been made unidentified accused in the case. So far, 44 people have been arrested by the law enforcement agencies.
