Meeting with Modi was fruitful, people of both countries will be benefited: PM Hasina

New Delhi: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina commented that there was a fruitful discussion with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She expressed hope that the outcome of this meeting will bring benefits to the people of both countries.

She made this comment in the presence of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Tuesday (September 6). Indian news agency ANI reported this information on Twitter on Tuesday.

Earlier, a bilateral meeting was held between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. The meeting between the two leaders ended at 2 pm Bangladesh time on Tuesday. Later, seven MoUs were signed between the representatives of the two countries in their presence.

Then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave a speech there. She said, "Today Prime Minister Modi and I concluded another round of fruitful discussions. The outcome of these discussions will bring benefits to the people of both countries. We met in a spirit of close friendship and cooperation."

In a joint statement with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh said, "I appreciate the visionary leadership of Modi Ji. It continues to give further impetus to our bilateral relations. India is the most important and closest neighbor of Bangladesh. India-Bangladesh bilateral relations are known as role models of neighbourly diplomacy."

The water of the Teesta River, which flows between India and Bangladesh, is very important to Dhaka. Although Bangladesh has been trying for a long time to ensure a fair share of the water of this international river, this water-sharing agreement is being delayed due to various reasons.

Regarding this, Sheikh Hasina said in the presence of Narendra Modi on Tuesday, that the two countries have resolved many major issues and we hope that all other unresolved issues, including the Teesta water sharing agreement, will be resolved soon.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke there before Sheikh Hasina. He said, "Last year we celebrated 50 years of independence of Bangladesh. We celebrated the first 'Friendship Day'. India-Bangladesh relations will reach new heights in the coming days."

In a joint statement with Sheikh Hasina, Modi said Bangladesh is today India's largest development partner and our largest trading partner in the region. People's cooperation (relationship) is constantly improving.
