Dhaka, March 6: The country's first metro train set has left for Bangladesh from Kobe port in Japan. This information was given on the Facebook page of Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) Bangladesh and Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) on Thursday.

The ship carrying the Metro train set departed 12 days later than expected by the government's Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL). Earlier, DMTCL had said that the ship carrying the metro train set would leave on February 20.

DMTCL's Facebook page said, "Bangladesh's first metro train set departed for Bangladesh on March 4 at 3 pm (18.00 local time in Japan) by ship from Kobe port in Japan."

According to DMTCL sources, the actual work of rolling stock or rail coach and depot equipment started on September 13, 2017 in Japan. The mock-up of the metro train reached Uttara Depot on December 26, 2019. And on 23rd February 2020, it has been set up at Uttara Depot Metro Rail Exhibition and Information Center.

Construction of the first metro train set with six passenger coaches was completed in the first week of April 2020, construction of the second metro train set in the first week of September 2020 and construction of the third, fourth and fifth metro train sets in December 2020.

In the ongoing coronavirus situation, the metro train set is being brought to Bangladesh through third party inspection on special initiative. The first metro train set started its journey from Kobe port in Japan on February 20 and will reach Uttara depot on April 23 via Mongla port in Bangladesh.

The second metro train set will start its journey from Kobe port on April 15 and arrive at the depot on June 16, sources said. The third metro train set will leave Japan on June 13 and reach the depot on August 13.

DMTCL also said that the fourth metro train and the fifth metro train set will arrive in Bangladesh soon. However, the probable date of these two sets has not been determined yet.

On February 17, MD MAN Siddique said that integrated tests would be started in phases after the Metro train sets reach Bangladesh. The trial run will start when the integrated test is over. The actual progress of this package of metro train sets is 37 percent.
