Dhaka, August 16: The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CCTC) unit of the Police has discovered a new terrorist hideout in the second round of operations in the remote Kalapahar of Karmadha Union of Kulaura Upazila of Moulvibazar. A large quantity of explosives was recovered from the new hideout.

CTTC Chief Mohammad Asaduzzaman announced the end of 'Operation Hillside' in a press conference at Moulvibazar Police Lines on Tuesday evening.

He said, on Monday morning, local residents of Achkarabad Bazar of Karmadha Union in Kulaura of Moulvibazar arrested 17 suspects. Immediately after receiving this news, I rushed to the spot. After interrogation, we confirmed that these are the accomplices of those who were arrested by our team last Saturday. Then we took them into custody from Karmadha union office. We interrogate them throughout the night. Then they told us that they have another shelter in this black mountain.

CTTC chief said, we went out in the morning in search of that hideout. I was able to reach the spot by crossing about 20 inaccessible hills. After going there, special forces searched and recovered 6 kg of explosives and 14 rounds of pistol from two rooms. These detainees are also members of the new radical organization Imam Mahmud's caravan. During the arrest, Tk 2 lakh in cash, two big guns, 95 detonators were recovered from them.

Asaduzzaman said, we think that there are important characters of that organization here. There are doctors and engineers among them. As interrogating them requires a lot of time and technique. So right now nothing can be said for sure about their main plan.

CTTC conducted a raid on the hills of Baishali area in Karmadha Union of Kulaura last Saturday morning. The operation was named 'Operation Hillside'. All the 10 persons arrested from there are members of the new militant organization "Imam Mahmud's Caravan". About three kg of explosives, about 50 detonators, three lakh 61 thousand rupees, training materials and several bags of Jihadi books were seized from their hideout.
