Dhaka, December 11: The Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges has been given the responsibility of maintenance and beautification of RAJUK-Kuril flyover. State Minister for Housing and Public Works Sharif Ahmed made the decision at a meeting held at the meeting room of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works at the Secretariat on Thursday (December 10).

Representatives of the Ministry of Local Government, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK) discussed the issue in detail.

During the discussion, the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and the DNCC presented their respective arguments for handing over the maintenance and beautification work of the flyover under their own supervision.

A representative of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges said that the place where RAJUK has constructed the Kuril flyover is owned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges. In addition, the ministry maintains and beautifies all the roads adjacent to the flyover. Besides, the Ministry of Bridges is also carrying out maintenance, beautification and infrastructural repairs of the road in line with the third terminal under construction at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. All the loops of this flyover have also been matched on the highway under the ministry.

According to the Ministry, the flyover is part of National Highway N-3. Note that they work on the maintenance and beautification of the lower part of the flyover and the junction of all the loops. Overall, maintenance and beautification work of this flyover should be entrusted to them.

After all the arguments and discussions, State Minister for Housing and Public Works Sharif Ahmed decided that the maintenance and beautification work of the flyover should be given to them on the basis of capacity, experience and other considerations of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges.

It may be mentioned that RAJUK has constructed Kuril flyover under Purbachal New Town project in the area adjacent to 300 feet road in Kuril Bishbrod area of the capital. But under the Purbachal New City project, its maintenance and beautification work could not be done permanently, so there was a need to transfer it to another office or organization.
