Comilla Quran Burning Miscreant who placed Quran in Comilla Hindu marquee identified, arrest soon
Dhaka, October 21: Authorities have identified the person who kept the Holy Quran in Comilla's Hindu marquee, by watching CCTV footage. The man's name is Iqbal Hossain. Multiple units of law enforcement are working to arrest him.
Analyzing the footage, it can be seen that the young man is coming out of the mosque with Quran Sharif in his hand at around 2:10 am on October 13. Then at 2:11 am he came to the main road and walked towards the marquee. Another CCTV footage showed that at 3:12 am, the young man did not have the Quran in his hand. He was walking near the pond next to the marquee with a mace on his shoulder. At that time he was looking around to see if anyone was watching him.
Iqbal has been identified as son of Nur Ahmad Alam of Muradpur-Laskar Pukur area of Ward No. 17 of Comilla city. His father runs a fish business.
Iqbal's mother Bibi Amena Begum said he had three sons and two daughters. Iqbal is the oldest. He was born on August 6, 1990. Iqbal started taking drugs at the age of 15. He got married in Barura upazila 10 years ago. He has one son. After five years of marriage, the couple divorced.
Amena Begum said that Iqbal used to torture his family members in various ways. He used to harass people on the streets at different times. He used to close the door of the bathroom and take yaba. Iqbal used to live in shrines. He used to go to Akhaura shrine at different times. He also visited various shrines in Comilla. Has studied till fifth class. Ten years ago, some boys in the neighborhood got into a fight with friends. At that time Iqbal was stabbed in the stomach. Since then Iqbal has been ill. The locals used to beat him with slander of thief at different times as he moved around suspiciously. Later they would regret it. Iqbal was a promising cricketer
Syed Sohail, councilor of ward 17 of Comilla City Corporation, said, “I have known Iqbal for 10 years. He stays almost all the time around my office. He used to work as a painter. Sometimes he also worked as a construction worker. Iqbal consumes yaba. Many people used to complain about Iqbal. The people of the area are uneasy about his activities. However, he is not involved with any political party. Not a party worker or supporter. He got married for the second time a few years ago. He suffered from mental illness after his wife left him few years into their marriage. I think the third party executed the job through him by taking advantage of his mental illness."
