Modern technology will be used in sewage management: Muhammad Tajul Islam

Dhaka, October 19: Local Government and Rural Development Minister Md. Tajul Islam said that sophisticated and modern technology will be used in waste management.

He was speaking as the chief guest at an awareness workshop for municipal mayors and engineers on the work plan for municipal waste management online from his ministry's room on Sunday.

Md. Tajul Islam said, "Advanced technology is being used in waste management in different countries of the world. The use of advanced technology is also being reviewed in our country."

He said, "Necessary equipment will be brought considering all the advantages and disadvantages of achieving the sustainable development goals and building a clean and tidy country."

The Minister said, "All other types of waste including sewage, solid waste should be managed in such a way that the environment is not polluted. There is no harm to human health. The latest technology will be used for this."

"The government will provide all the necessary logistical support to build a clean and environmentally friendly country," he said.

The Minister istened to the municipal mayors of all the problems facing the municipalities of the country and assured that they would be resolved.

At the same time, the local government minister emphasized on increasing the own income of the municipalities.

In the workshop, the director of the International Training Network on technical issues of BUET Dr. Tanvir Ahmed gave a presentation and Dara Johnston, UNICEF's Wash Section Head, highlighted Bangladesh's current position in achieving the SDG 6.2 target.

The online workshop, chaired by Helaluddin Ahmed, senior secretary, local government department, was attended by senior officials of the ministry, chief engineers of the public health engineering department and mayors and engineers of 50 municipalities.
