Dhaka, January 13: The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has decided upon the use of Moderna vaccines instead of jabs from Pfizer for the booster doses against the coronavirus.

The directive was given in a letter signed by the director and line director (MNC & AH) of the health department, Prof Dr Shamsul Haque, on Wednesday (January 12).

The directive says that the Covid-19 vaccine program has been instructed to use Moderna vaccine instead of Pfizer as a booster dose at all levels of the country. However, school and college students (ages 12-17) will receive the Pfizer vaccine as the first and second dose.

In addition, for those who have been vaccinated with Pfizer as the first dose, the directorate has instructed to administer the same vaccine as the second dose.

Officially, in addition to regular immunizations across the country, including the capital, booster doses are being given to first and second dose vaccinators. In the last 24 hours, 34,860 people were vaccinated with booster dose.

As of Wednesday (January 12), a total of 5,40,526 people across the country have been vaccinated with booster doses.
