Dhaka, May 18: The court has ordered the death penalty of five people in the case of murder of bride Monira Parveen for dowry. However, Monira's husband Nasir Hossain was acquitted as the charges were not proved. Judge Mafroza Parveen of Dhaka Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal-8 gave this verdict on Thursday.

The accused who were sentenced to death are Monira's husband Nasir's brother Masood, sister Hasina and her husband Milan, Milan's brother Delwar Hossain and Nasir's uncle Din Islam. All of them were on bail. On this day they appeared in court. At the end of the verdict, they were sent to jail with a warrant.

According to the complaint in the case, on 18 June 2013 at 5:30 pm, Monira left the house to buy medicine and did not return. The family could not find him.

The next day they came to know that Nasir Hossain got married to Monira after taking the office of Kazi. After hearing this, Monira's father Mustafa went to Nasir's father Hachen Ali. He requested to return the girl.

Then Hachen Ali got angry and demanded Tk 10 lakh dowry from Monira's father. He threatened to kill both father and daughter if they did not pay dowry. The next day, Nasir took Monira to her house. After going home, Nasir's father, mother and other members of the family beat Monira with a cricket stamp, killed her, punched her, pulled her hair and left her in a sand field nearby. Local people rescued Monira and took her to Asian City Medical College Hospital for treatment. When his physical condition deteriorated, his family took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Monira died on the morning of June 22 while undergoing treatment there. The murder took place three days after the wedding in Khilkhet police station area of the capital.
