Bangabandhu Assassination More research is needed into the background of Bangabandhu's murder: Foreign Minister
Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 16 August 2023: It is necessary to further research the events behind the brutal killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family.
Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen said this at a discussion meeting organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Foreign Service Academy on the occasion of the 48th martyrdom anniversary of the Father of the Nation on Tuesday afternoon. He said that before the assassination of Bangabandhu, the diplomats of some countries were brought to Dhaka and afterwards, a lot of research should be done on what the people of some countries said.
The foreign minister said, 'Before the assassination of Bangabandhu in 1975, there was an unrest in the country. Basanti's story was publicized. Then many people started moving into the country and there was an unrest. Attempts are being made to create such instability in today's Bangladesh. There is a similarity of today's Bangladesh with that time.
He said that despite the incredible progress in the country under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, the kind of unrest we saw before the assassination of Bangabandhu, it seems that now some people have stepped up to create such a situation again. So we have to be careful. We have to work with sincerity. We need to be more proactive in countering the various forms of propaganda that have started. We must all be vigilant to prevent a repeat of '75.
Dr. Momen said, Bangabandhu is an ideal, a spirit, an institution. He gave us an independent sovereign state, created a nation. He did not stop at just creating an independent sovereign state, the Father of the Nation has done everything necessary to establish a newly independent country on a solid foundation in just three and a half years.
He said that after independence, Bangladesh gained membership of all the international organizations in a short period of time. Bangladesh was even able to gain membership of the United Nations.
The foreign minister said that there are very few countries in the world who have been able to achieve the recognition of so many states in such a short period of time. It was possible because of Bangabandhu's visionary leadership and his personality. Not only was recognition achieved, but after just two months, Bandhupratim was able to send back Indian troops. Bangabandhu gave a beautiful, strong constitution in just 9 months to establish this nation on a solid foundation.
