Dhaka, July 13: In order to save people from getting infected by the coronavirus, they have been vaccinated with either the Oxford-AstraZeneca jab produced by India's Serum Institute, the Sinovac Covid-19 jab by Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinopharm or the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine from the USA. The country has so far administered 10 million doses during the course of its vaccination drive.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Sharfuddin Ahmed had said this in an interview with various media outlets at his office on Sunday (July 4).

"There is a strong demand for vaccination from different countries. Initiatives have also been taken to produce vaccines in the country. So no more frustration with the vaccine. With the efforts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, it will be possible to give free vaccine to most of the people of the country," he said.

Speaking about the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccination program, he said, "At present, the second dose of Oxford-AstraZeneca is underway in some centers, including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University. Hopefully, the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine will be available in the next one to two months as per the agreement. Then the vaccination process can be started in full."

"Follow the lockdown norms to protect yourself and others. If you go out for special needs, you must wear a mask. The first few steps to prevent coronavirus is to wear a mask, observe social distance, and wash hands with soap and hand sanitizer as needed," he said.
