Dhaka, October 24, 2021: Iqbal Hossain (30), the man who had placed a Quran in a ouja pandal in Cumilla, is facing the wrath of her mother. She demanded tough punishment for him.

Locals also demanded his arrest and punishment and demanded that others involved be brought to justice.

According to them, mentally unbalanced Iqbal did not do it alone, someone did it with him. Law enforcement says Iqbal did not use a mobile phone and moved frequently to catch him.

Police said they identified Iqbal after watching CCTV footage on Wednesday (October 20th). The accused Iqbal is the son of Nur Ahmed Alam, a fishmonger from Muradpur Laskarpukurpar area of Comilla's 17th ward.

Visiting the second Muradpur Lashkarpukur area, it was learned that Iqbal Hossain, identified in the CCTV footage, has long been known as a drug addict and mentally unbalanced. He is the eldest of three brothers and two sisters. The two are already married.

According to family and local sources, Iqbal spent most of his time at his grandmother's house in Lashkarpukur area. He also visited various mosques and shrines in the city. He also used to come and go in the temples of the followers of traditional religions. Iqbal also ate the food given to them.

According to locals, Iqbal is mentally unbalanced and addicted to drugs, so he cannot do it himself. Someone did it with him.

Iqbal's mother Bibi Amena said, "She has been addicted to drugs since the age of 16-18. He has lived with my mother since his second wife left. Two days before the incident (October 11) in the afternoon he came home to meet me drunk. When asked why he came, he left without speaking. He has not come home since then.

"I saw in the video that my son had placed the Holy Qur'an in the shrine," he said. That is why we will take the punishment that the Prime Minister will give to my son. If anyone else is involved in this incident, we demand to bring them under the law and punish them.

Mohammad Sohel, a councilor in Comilla's 17th ward, said Iqbal was mentally ill. Noting that Iqbal was not associated with any political party, he said he was a day laborer. He used to work as a mason's jogali (assistant) and painter. He has been intoxicated since his wife left. Since then he has lived in shrines and on the verandahs of mosques. Due to his madness, his parents did not give him a place in the house and he used to stay with his grandmother.
