Own Correspondent, Dhaka, June 27: Two youths lost their lives in a motorcycle accident on the first day of traffic movement on the Padma Bridge.

According to reports, one of them was riding the motorcycle, the other one was sitting in the back and filming. At that time the speed of their motorcycle was about 105 km per hour. Suddenly the rider of the motorcycle lost control and fell right in front of a truck.

The driver and rider were seriously injured. They were later rescued and brought to Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital. At 10:35 pm, the doctor on duty declared them dead. The deceased were identified as Md. Alamgir Hossain, 22, and Md. Fazlu, 21. They were residents of Dohar-Nawabgaganj in Dhaka. Alamgir worked as a motorcycle mechanic, and Fazlu was an expatriate. He came to the country a month ago.

Joydeb Roy was one of those who brought Alamgir and Fazlu to Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital after the accident. He said, "We, six friends, went to see the Padma Bridge on three motorcycles. Alamgir and Fazlu met the accident at the Mawa end while returning from the Jazira end of the bridge."

Meanwhile, pillion rider Md. Fazlu was filming from the motorcycle before the accident. As seen in the video obtained by Jago News, they overtook all the vehicles by riding motorcycles at extra speed. Although there was an instruction to ride a motorcycle at a speed of 60 kmph on the bridge, they were breaking it and riding at a reckless speed.

Then the speed of the motorcycle gradually increased from 90, 95, 100 to 105. After some time that speed decreased to 70. Then suddenly the motorcycle lost control and fell in front of a truck.

After the accident on the very first day, the Bridges division on Sunday (June 26) night issued a notification banning motorcycles on the Padma Bridge from 6 am on Monday (June 27) until further orders.

The decision of the bridge department was informed in an information statement of the information department.

The Padma Bridge was opened to all types of vehicles from Sunday morning. Since then, many people were crossing the bridge with motorcycles and private cars. At the same time trucks, buses and other types of vehicles are plying on the bridge. However, the presence of motorcycles had been seen the most.

According to the bridge management authority, 60 percent of the vehicles that crossed the bridge by noon on the first day were motorcycles.
