Dhaka, July 12: Awami League General Secretary and Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader has said that the number of accidents is more due to motorcycles. He made the remarks while exchanging post-Eid greetings in the meeting room of the Road Transport and Highways Department at the Secretariat at 11am on Tuesday (July 12).

Mentioning the need for the government to control the motorcycles, the minister said that in some cases the government orders were obeyed, while in some cases the motorcycles came on the highway in violation of the orders. Motorcycles are the main cause of accidents and small vehicles (three wheels) are not controlled.

Responding to a question from reporters about the plight of people on the road, he said, "Not everything happens at once. Show a work of those who criticize, say big things. That work has facilitated the movement of vehicles of the people of Bangladesh. Nowhere do they have anything visible. You will see Metrorail and Karnafuli Tunnel in the future."

He also hoped that the Metrorail would be inaugurated in December this year and the Dhaka Elevated Expressway by the end of next year. The minister said it (expressway) was slow before but now the speed has increased. "We have eliminated the problem of financing."
