Dhaka, November 12: Former law minister and Awami League presidium member Abdul Matin Khasru has demanded a ban on the use of army names before the names of the killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He made the demand while discussing the general resolution brought in the special session of the Jatiya Sangsad on the occasion of Bangabandhu's birth centenary on Wednesday (November 11).

Earlier on Monday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina raised a general resolution under Rule 147 to pay homage to the Father of the Nation.

Referring to the closure of the trial for Bangabandhu's assassination, Abdul Matin Khasru said, "What an inferior man. Bangabandhu was killed. That murderer cannot be tried, gave indemnity. Is there this law somewhere? Ziaur Rahman has made ambassador out of the killers. Doesn't Khaleda Zia know Rashid is a murderer? Doesn't she know who killed Russel? She put the killer in the chair of the opposition. Khaleda Zia is a criminal. They introduced the Doctrine of Impunity."

He said, "Zia and Khaleda Zia used to go to Bangabandhu’s house regularly. They would have been happy if Bangabandhu had looked a little at them. Bangabandhu's killers used to walk with their chests swollen. But will not be able to come to the country alive. Colonel, Brigadier should not be with their names. Our army is our pride. They should not have these (prefixes) before their names."

At the same time, he drew the attention of the Prime Minister to form a commission to find out the people behind the assassination of Bangabandhu and bring them under the law.

Highlighting various aspects of Bangabandhu's life, the former law minister said, "Bangabandhu never compromised with injustice. He was born in rural Bangladesh. He used to speak the truth from his childhood. If he had not gone to the polls in the 70's, history would not be like this. He got the mandate. This is a decision that made Bangladesh independent. Bangladesh is now a role model of development due to prudent and strong leadership. There is no Bangabandhu today, but his daughter Sheikh Hasina is following his ideology. And who is she (Sheikh Hasina) being compared to? Khaleda Zia? Even if you ask the BNP, they do not say. The greatest asset of Bangladesh is the leadership of Sheikh Hasina. It's not flattery, it's reality. Bangabandhu's power was divine. If Bangabandhu was alive today, he would have said to Sheikh Hasina, daughter, be the Prime Minister. It's not flattery, it's reality."
