MP Haji Selim released on parole after brother's death

Dhaka, July 1: Haji Kayes, elder brother of imprisoned Dhaka-6 MP Haji Mohammad Selim, has died. MP Haji Mohammad Selim, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison in a corruption case, has been released on parole for his brother's janaza and burial.

Haji Selim's elder brother Haji Kayes (72) died at his home in Shyamoli on Friday (July 1) at 7:20 am. Soon after, Haji Selim applied for release on parole.

Haji Selim's personal secretary Mohiuddin Ahmed Belal said Haji Kayes had died of old age. His namaz-e-janaza was held at Shahi Jame Mosque in Chawkbazar after Jumu'ah prayers and after janaza, the deceased was buried at Azimpur cemetery. Haji Md. Selim was released on parole at 2:20 pm to attend the funeral and burial of his elder brother.

In this regard, senior jail superintendent of Dhaka Central Jail Subhash Kumar Ghosh said, Haji Md. Selim has been released on parole. He applied to attend his brother's janaza and burial.

Haji Selim, who was sentenced to 10 years in a corruption case, was denied bail and sent to jail on May 22. On the same day he was taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital for treatment. The MP has been in the hospital since then.
