MP Papul's wife and daughter ordered to surrender within 10 days

Dhaka, December 10: The High Court has ordered Selina Islam, wife of Laxmipur-2 MP Kazi Shahid Islam Papul, and his daughter Wafa Islam, who was arrested in Kuwait on charges of illegal acquisition of wealth and money laundering, to surrender within 10 days. A virtual bench of the High Court comprising Justice Md. Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Ahmed Sohail passed the order on Thursday (December 10th).

Md. Khurshid Alam represented the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in court today. Senior lawyer Abdul Baset Majumder and lawyer Saeed Ahmed Raja were in favor of the bail application. Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin represented the state.

Earlier on November 26, Kazi Shahid Islam Papul's wife Selina Islam and daughter Wafa Islam applied for anticipatory bail in the High Court in a case of illegal acquisition of wealth and money laundering.

On November 11, ACC deputy director Md. Salahuddin filed a case against four people, including Papul and his wife Selina, for smuggling illegal assets worth Tk 2.31 crore and Tk 148 crore.

The other accused in the case are Papul's daughter Wafa Islam and Selina's sister Jasmine Pradhan. Papul is in Kuwaiti jail on charges of money laundering and human trafficking.

On February 26, the ACC decided to investigate the allegation of smuggling hundreds of crores of rupees against Kazi Shahidul Islam Papul through known means of human trafficking.
