Dhaka, July 23: Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir has not been found guilty by the police in a case of inciting college student Mosarat Jahan Munia to commit suicide. Gulshan police has submitted a final report to the court recommending that Anvir be acquitted of the charges filed by Munia's sister.

Sudip Kumar Chakraborty, deputy commissioner of the Gulshan division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said the investigating officer in the case submitted the "final report" to the court on July 19. Bashundhara MD Sayem Sobhan Anvir was not found involved in Munia's suicide incitement case. So in the final report he has been released.

Police recovered the body of 21-year-old Mosharat Jahan Munia from a flat in Gulshan, Dhaka, on the night of April 19. That night, the girl's sister Nusrat Jahan Tania filed a case against Anvir at Gulshan police station alleging incitement to suicide.

It is said that Sayem Sobhan Anvir had a relationship with Munia by showing the 'temptation of marriage'. He used to come to that house. But without getting married, he 'threatened' Munia. After the case was filed, the court banned Anvir from leaving the country at the request of the police. However, some members of his family, including his wife and children, rented a plane in the lockdown and flew to Dubai.

An application for his anticipatory bail was filed in the High Court at the end of April, but his appeal was not heard in the midst of the pandemic.

Munia was a second year student of Mirpur Cantonment Public School and College in Dhaka. She was a resident of Manoharpur in Comilla. She had rented the flat for Tk 1 lakh a couple of months before her death.

After recovering Munia's body, the police recovered various signs, including her mobile phone and six diaries. The police at the time also said that they had found 'evidence' of Anvir's journey to Munia's flat by examining the CCTV video.
