Municipal elections: Ansar member injured in Daganbhuiyan blast

Dhaka, January 16: An Ansar member was injured in a grenade blast at a polling station in Feni's Daganbhuna municipality. The incident took place at Ganipur Government Primary School in Ward 8 of the municipality around 10 am on Saturday.

Daganbhuiyan Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Perth Pratim Dev said, "There have been isolated cocktail explosions in the vicinity of Ganipur Government Primary School since morning. Several people, including an Ansar member named Arif, were injured."

After the incident, besides the police, BGB and RAB are working to control the situation, he said.

Kamrul Islam Clive, a councilor candidate for the Ganipur Government Primary School center table lamp symbol, said supporters of government-backed ostrict symbol councilor candidate Shalauddin Rubel have been influencing the center since the night before the vote.

Four people, including an Ansar member, were injured when a cocktail exploded at the center around 10:15 am.

Kamrul said the injured have been admitted to various local hospitals.

The other three injured are former president of Sindurpur Union Chhatra League Anwar Hossain Sujan, Mainuddin and Tareq.

Ganipur Government Primary School Presiding Officer. Ismail said that although there were isolated incidents outside the center, voting was going on inside.

Voting has been going on in 13 centers in Daganbhuya municipality since Saturday morning. In this municipality four people are contesting for the post of mayor and 15 people are contesting for the post of councilor.

Four candidates have already been elected in the general ward and three candidates in the reserved ward without contest.
