Dhaka, Feb 6: Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud has said that Myanmar has contacted to take back the members of the Border Guard Police (BGP) who took shelter on the Bangladesh border due to the conflict between the Myanmar army and the armed rebel group, Arakan Army, in Rakhine state.

He said this during a press briefing on Monday (February 5).

When asked what is Bangladesh's position on the Myanmar BGP members who have come to Bangladesh, he said, "We have uninterrupted communication. Myanmar's Deputy Foreign Minister also spoke to our ambassador on Monday morning. They will take back their citizens. That means BGP will take back their members who have come here. Now we are in discussion about which process will take it back. We are also discussing whether to take them back by air or by boat. We have to find a way. Even before this, many people had entered India. They were airlifted from India."

In response to the question of what will happen if they don't want to go, he said, "They definitely want to go. If not, why is the Myanmar government contacting us? Myanmar wants to take them back. They communicated, we communicated. There has been communication from both sides. We are working on it."
